Nissan L28ET (2.8 L) Turbocharged Engine: Specs, Review & Service data

Nissan L28ET  – Nissan / Datsun L28ET Engine Specs

The Nissan / Datsun L28ET is a 2.8 liter, 2753 cc, 6 cylinders inline, four-stroke cycle water-cooled turbocharged internal combustion gasoline engine. It is part of the Nissan L-family.

The Nissan / Datsun L28ET engine features a wedge-shaped combustion chamber, a cast-iron block, an aluminum head with an overhead camshaft and a fully balanced 7-bearing crankshaft.

The cylinder block is cast in a single unit and features deep skirting. The Nissan / Datsun L28ET is fitted with an electronic multiport fuel injection system, a single Garrett AiResearch TB03 internally wastegated turbocharger without an intercooler, and a new engine control system, Nissan’s ECCS (Electronic Concentrated Control System).

Nissan / Datsun L28ET has a 3.39 in (86 mm ) cylinder bore and a 3.11 in (79 mm) piston stroke. The compression ratio rating is 7.4:1. The Nissan / Datsun L28ET turbo produced 182 PS (134 kW; 180 HP) of horsepower and 274 Nm (27.95 kg·m; 202.21 ft·lb) of torque.

The L28ET engine has a cast-iron cylinder block with a 3.39-inch bore and a 79-millimeter stroke (3.11 in). The seven-bearing support system makes the cylinder block quieter and lasts longer. It is a one-piece structure that was cast in one piece. The ratio of compression is 7.4:1.

SOHC stands for “single overhead camshaft.” The L20ET has twelve valves (two per cylinder). The cylinder head is an aluminum alloy that is light, strong, and cools well. The diameter of the intake valves is 44 mm (1.73 in), and the diameter of the exhaust valves is 35 mm (1.37 in).

Early versions of the L28ET had mechanical rockers that could be adjusted, but after September 1982, these were replaced with hydraulic rockers.

The breakdown of the Nissan / Datsun L28ET  engine code is as follows:

  • L – Engine Family
  • 28 – 2.8 Liter Displacement
  • E – Multi-Point Fuel Injection
  • T – Turbocharger
