Toyota 1G-FE (2.0 L, DOHC) Engine: Specs, Review & Service Data

Toyota 1G-FE Engine Specs

The Toyota 1G-FE is a 2.0 L (121.3 cu·in, 1,988 cc) straight-six, four-stroke cycle natural aspirated gasoline engine from the Toyota G-family. The Toyota Motor Corporation made the engine from 1988 to 2005.

The Toyota 1G-FE engine features an aluminium cylinder head with dual belt-driven overhead camshafts (DOHC), a cast-iron cylinder block, and four valves per cylinder (24 in total).

The Toyota 1G-FE  is fitted with an electronic fuel injection system. The Compression ratio rating is from 8.0:1 to 10.5:1, depending on the engine modification. The cylinder bore and piston stroke are 75.0 mm (2.95 in) and 75.0 mm (2.95 in), respectively.

The 1G-FE engine generations:

  • 1-st gen: In 1988, the first generation of the 1G-FE came out. This engine made a maximum of 135 PS (99 kW, or 133 HP) at 5,600 rpm and a maximum of 176 Nm (17.9 kgm, or 129.9 ftlb) at 4,400 rpm.
  • 2-nd gen: This engine was the second generation when it came out in 1996. At 5,600 rpm, the output power went up to 140 PS (103 kW; 138 HP), and at 4,400 rpm, the peak torque went up to 185 Nm (18.9 kgm; 136.5 ftlb).
  • 3-rd gen: The 1G-FE BEAMS were the third generation, which came out in 1998. New pistons and connecting rods were used in this engine. This version has a VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing) system on the intake camshaft, an ACIS (Acoustic Control Induction System) – a variation of Toyota’s Variable Length Intake Manifold system – and an electronic throttle body. This version has an output power of 160 PS (118 KW; 158 HP) at 6,200 rpm and a peak torque of 200 Nm (20.4 kgm; 147.6 ftlb) at 4,400 rpm.

The breakdown of the engine code is as follows:

  • 1 – 1 generation engine
  • G – Engine family
  • F – Economy narrow-angle DOHC
  • E – Multi-Point Fuel Injection
